***Always check the calendar for last minute changes before coming to the range.***
***Non-Match ranges are posted Thursday night for the coming weekend.***
***Matches appear on the Calendar well in advance as we need base approvals 3-months prior***
Range Control notifies the QSC of available ranges on Sunday night for the coming weekend (remember, RC has to de-conflict 39 Quantico Ranges). Our Chief RSO notifies our RSO cadre of available ranges and asks for volunteers to open ranges (3 per range). By Thursday night we know if we can or cannot open a range and it is placed on the Calendar Thursday night or Friday morning. If RSOs don't respond, then ranges will not open. Our volunteer RSOs are vitally important to the success of the club - consider becoming an RSO to help all shooters and allow us to open all ranges.
Click the Event Title in the calendar date block to get additional information on the course of fire or limits for the day's shooting
If NO ranges are posted by Friday morning, it could be due to all ranges being closed - check back the following week
If no Marine training is taking place on MCBQ ranges, then all ranges (and QSC) will be closed
If there are no events listed for a future date, the event may be awaiting confirmation of RSO availability
Members can bring Guests - Report to the Clubhouse and sign a waiver, pay the $10 Range Fee (each) and receive a guest pass that is provided to the RSO at the range
Range conditions as found at 0630 will change what gate we use to enter pits, what lanes for steel targets and use of roads to haul steel to 100 yd line and man handle to berm. Rg2 has a tunnel as well as Gate 1 to access pits: You will be briefed on what we will use by RSO's at 0715.
Range Opening: Report to Rg2 600 yd line off Garand Road at 0715. The gate to pis closes at 0745. Range Safety Brief will be issued on the 600-yard line at 0815. Upon confirmation that the QSC EMT is present, we will go HOT. Reminder: Get here Early. BE here at 0715. There will likely be a brief cease-fire, no more than 20 minutes, around 0945. This will be the only opportunity for new shooters who are prepared and can set their target up in this time frame to participate. It is strongly suggested that anyone wishing to take this opportunity be on location and ready to go no later than 0930. Weather is a factor and may result in changes to this schedule. This is the RSO cadre's call. Rain, extreme heat, and so on can result in a shortened range day.
Course of Fire: 600 Yard Precision Rifle .
Questions : Call Skip 703 987 7520
600-yard shooting day only. If firing a 338 caliber, understand you may be refused if the airspace or distance X (6400yds) cannot be cleared. We ONLY know if 338 calibers can be approved on the morning of the event. Be prepared and bring an alternate caliber/rifle if possible.
Steel & All Target Frames: Set up time is 0715-0745. UPON ARRIVAL SEE AN RSO FOR GUIDANCE AS TO WHERE TO SET UP. GATE WILL CLOSE AT 0745. Don't come mid-morning and expect us to stop the range so you can set up, we come on time so you come on time. Big Boy Rules here. Lanes 20-29 are reserved for special targets and RSOs who spot for those challenges. Steel Targets are set at target points TBD only. Steel Targets: Have your frame perfected before coming to the range. You do not have time to fool around and build the Taj Mahal, have your steel target sorted out for quick install / take down. Don't be that guy...come ready.
Shooters: All Shooters come prepared for quick target setup. No vehicles on any grass, keep on the roads. Targets, hydration, sunscreen, bug spray, and food - bring yours-- none provided. YOU MUST wear hearing protection and have eye protection per USMC base regulations.
Membership cards will be inspected to ensure you are a current club member (liability and safety). Membership cards that have expired can be renewed at club house.
Parking: Parking : as directed at 0715 when you report to RSO's on Rg 2.
The "Shotgun Sports Mentorship Program" (SSMP) was designed as a way for Marines / Navy and other junior military members from the military services who may not have access to shotguns to come out and shoot skeet and trap. We match an experienced QSC shot-gunner one-on-one with an enlisted (E1-E4) military service-member. We provide the shotgun and the 50 rounds of ammunition so they can shoot two 25-round "games"; all they pay is $10 for the two games they shoot. In addition, we also offer any E-1 to E-4 a free, 2-year QSC membership!
This is a low cost means to experience the speed and thrill of shooting two shotgun sports while learning from experienced QSC members!
Participation is easy:
Visit the QSC clubhouse located half-way between the Fire Station and Weapons Training Battalion (MCB-4), on a weekend and obtain a free membership.
While at the clubhouse sign-up for a Mentored Skeet and Trap Shoot – or send an email requesting an appointment to shoot skeet and trap to steve.austin@quanticoshootingclub.com.
QSC will provide an experienced mentor to conduct orientation on skeet and trap fields safety, etiquette, target shooting advice – for free.
The mentor will provide Marine / Navy person a sporting shotgun to use – for free.
QSC will provide, while inventories allow, 50 rounds of shotgun ammunition, enough for 2 games to participating Marines and Navy or other military personnel – for free.
Eligible personnel will pay just $10 each to cover the cost of targets used during the shoot.
The Shotgun Range includes 2 American skeet fields, 1 American trap field, and 1 international (bunker) trap field.
The Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for the shotgun range requires, at a minimum, 1 Officer-In-Charge (OIC) and 1 Range Safety Officer (RSO) supervising the skeet and American trap fields. This field opening arrangement is typical when shotgun ranges are open. The SOP requires a second RSO at the international trap (IT) field for it to open. This means 3 qualified range officials must be on-site to open all shotgun ranges simultaneously. As a result, the IT field is only open when there is club-member demand and 3 qualified range officials are available.
Please let the Club leadership know at least 5 days in advance if the IT field is desired and the shotgun RSOs will strive to meet your request. Check these notes for future openings.
On all shotgun ranges:
When open, range times are from 0900-1300. Check-in/Sign-in with the RSO before approaching the firing line on any shotgun field. Check-out with the RSO after shooting is completed to tally/record rounds fired.
Practice gun safety at all times. Never enter the QSC clubhouse with a firearm. Carry all shotguns unloaded with the actions open until you are standing at your firing position. For members using autoloaders and pump actions, load a maximum of two shells at a time only.
Only 7.5, 8, and 9 shot is allowed. Never use shot larger than size 7.5. Slugs are not allowed.
RSOs have discretion over what types of shotguns are allowed. Generally, shotguns should have shoulder stocks and barrels longer than 24 inches. The firearm must be in good working order.
Hearing and eye protection is always required when shooting.
One game (trap or skeet) is 25 rounds and costs $5. Shooters must have scan cards to activate the readers located at each American skeet field to pay for the games on those fields. Paper punch cards (available in the clubhouse) are used to pay for American and international trap games.
Please be ready to shoot at least 30 minutes prior to the posted closing time. RSOs may close the range early due to unsuitable weather conditions.
This is a 300-meter unknown distance range. Recreational calibers are authorized up to and including 50 BMG.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
338 Lapua is PROHIBITED on Range 1 per the USMC range SOP. However, be advised Range Control may place further restrictions on ammunition eligibility this weekend at any time for any reason. Their decision is NOT negotiable. Do not ask the RSOs to question their decision.
There are updates to some minimum distances for shooting steel targets. Please see the changes below in the Steel Targets section of these notes. RSOs will check all distances for steel targets prior to allowing the range to go hot.
Empty Chamber Indicators (ECIs) are mandatory for ALL FIREARMS on the Range 1. No exceptions. If you need ECIs for your firearms, please stop by the clubhouse and purchase one ($1.00 each) for each firearm you intend to shoot on the range.
Please present your current QSC membership card upon sign in. All guests must check in at the QSC Clubhouse and pay guest fee, sign waivers and present a guest pass to a range RSO prior to shooting.
If we are inside the shooting house on Range 1 and depending on the number of shooters arriving, you may have to wait in queue to get a spot on the firing line.

1 - Through the month June, MCBQ Range Control is coordinating range upgrades and repairs on Ranges 1,2,3 and 4 on the Calvin A. Lloyd range complex. During this time, work crews will be performing the upgrades and repairs on an aggressive schedule, including the weekends. Be advised during this period QSC may be denied access to a given range AT THE LAST MINUTE (read this as just prior to on-site members occupying a given range) due to eleventh-hour work crew schedule changes.
Although an inconvenience for this short period, the good news is Quantico Shooting Club members will benefit from this work by having access to the finest, well-maintained rifle, pistol and shotgun ranges on the east coast.
2 – On Sunday, June 16th there will be a simultaneous live fire event on Range 2. As such, the OIC and RSOs on Range 1 will coordinate hot / cold / check fire periods with the OIC and RSOs on Range 2. This may result in hot / cold delays on Range 1 while we verify Range 2 has gone into check fire. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD YOU ENTER THE SHOOT HOUSE OR THE RANGE 1 GROUNDS UNTIL THE OIC AND RSO ARE PRESENT AND HAVE GIVEN THE ALL CLEAR TO OCCUPY THE RANGE.
Range 1 - General Purpose Pistol, Rifle, and Tactical Shotgun Recreational Fire.
This is a 300-meter unknown distance range. Recreational calibers are authorized up to and including 50 BMG.

ALL FIREARMS WILL REMAIN CASED until AFTER the safety briefing is complete AND RSOs have communicated that the Firing Line is Hot.
There will be NO handling of uncased firearms while the firing line is COLD.
Shooters must be prepared to case all weapons at the last cease fire. If your weapon needs time to cool down, please make plans to do so prior to 1330.
Our objective is to maintain a cycle of 45/15 minute hot/cold times throughout the day.
Shooters showing up throughout the day will first sign in and then receive a safety brief from an RSO prior to carrying gear to the firing line.

Steel Targets
Ballistic steel targets must be a minimum of 3/8" thick and constructed of AR-500 steel.
All steel targets must be mounted or hung with a forward cant to deflect all bullet fragments towards the ground.
Steel targets must not be compromised meaning there must not be excessive pitting or holes in the targets
RSOs will inspect steel targets to ensure these requirements are met. If they are not, you will not be permitted to use those steel targets on Range 1.

Targets must not exceed the height of the impact area when viewed from your intended shooting position on the firing line.
FIRING LINE
Shooters are responsible for ensuring their target stands are not in the line of sight of other targets and they are not shooting someone else’s target. Know what is up and down range of your target. The RSOs will check this, and lost range time will result if an issue is discovered.
CLEAN UP – PACK IT IN, PACK IT OUT
All target material, shell casings, and trash must be removed from the range after firing. There should be no trace of activity left on the range other than lead in the berms. If you pack it in, pack it out.

For members using auto-loaders and pump actions, load a maximum of two shells at a time only.
One game (trap or skeet) is 25 rounds and costs $6.

If we are inside the shooting house on Range 1 and depending on the number of shooters arriving, you may have to wait in queue to get a spot on the firing line.
Drawing From Holsters
The following rules apply to drawing from holsters on Range 1:
If the firing line is inside the shooting house - Drawing from holsters is prohibited per the USMC Range 1 SOP. There are no exceptions to this rule.
If the firing line is forward of the shooting house - Drawing from holster is permitted at the discretion of the RSOs. If the range is crowded, the RSOs may restrict all drawing from the holster until the range is less crowded.

ENVIRONMENTAL
QSC does not provide water, sunscreen, insect repellent, etc.
NOTE: RANGE CONTROL CAN SHUTDOWN RANGES AT ANY TIME IF NO OTHER TRAINING IS ACTIVE.
Range Opening: Report to Gate 7 off Willis Road at 0715. The gate closes at 0745. Range Safety Brief will be issued on the 1000-yard line at 0800. Upon confirmation that the QSC EMT is present, we will go HOT. Reminder: Get here Early.
Course of Fire: This is a 1000-yard shooting day only.
GATE 7 WILL CLOSE AT 0745. Don't come mid-morning and expect us to stop the range so you can set up, we come on time so you come on time. Big Boy Rules here. Lanes 20-29 are reserved for special targets and RSOs who spot for those challenges. Steel Targets are set at target points 30-50 only.
Parking: Parking at 1000 yds permitted on the hill behind the 1000 yard line.
NOTE: RANGE CONTROL CAN SHUTDOWN RANGES AT ANY TIME IF NO OTHER TRAINING IS ACTIVE.
