Range 4 - Know Your Limits

The club had good feedback on the May event where we placed differing courses of steel across Range 4. We intend to continue the KYL challenge monthly. Stay tuned to the Club's Calendar page for the events. Also know that this takes a lot of work to lay out the courses of fire, make the range cards and then place the T-Posts and Steel. We use three, two-member teams the morning of the event to assist. Please consider helping so we can continue this beneficial event.

We will be incorporating shooter feedback into future events. Typical range notes could include:

The Know Your Limits uses the center and right side of Range 4 by placing 3 courses of steel. One is on shooting position 25, one is on position 33 and the last is on position 42.

Normal 1,000yd recreational fire will be on the left side of the range between shooting positions 1 and 15. Rec fire shooters can use these positions for paper and electronic targets, load / velocity testing, etc.

Both sides of the range will fire and cease fire / go cold simultaneously.

KYL is to test a shooter's DOPE, skills and precision.

  • The QSC will be placing Club Steel, of varying sizes, at varying distances between 600 and 1,035yds distant from the firing line
  • No 50cal or .338 calibers for KYL
  • Steel will be placed between lanes 25 - 45
    • A KYL Rack will be placed on Lane 25 that is 600yds from the firing line. KYL are 1MOA targets of decreasing in size (10", 8", 6", 4" and 2") as you traverse the rack
    • Steel will be placed on Lane 33 at 600, 700, 800, 900, 1,000 and 1,035yds from the firing line. We will do our best to have at least 1MOA targets at each target spot
    • Steel will be placed between 600yds and 1,000yds from the firing line in lanes 42-45, Steel will be varying sizes, shapes and distances from the firing line.
    • Range cards will be available
    • Depending on conditions, we may have to adjust any CoF
    • The intent is to test your skills and DOPE, NOT to camp out testing loads, getting velocities, or for any other reason that clogs the lane(s), etc.
      • If you need velocities and testing, use the left side of the range and shoot rec fire
  • THIS KYL IS A PROOF OF CONCEPT THAT MAY LEAD TO A FAST PACED "KYL MATCH" IF PROVEN POPULAR

Range Opening

  • RSOs will be setting steel beginning at 0715
  • Shooters should report to the firing line and muster around lane 30 (remember, you're not uncasing weapons)
  • Rec fire shooters may report to Gate 7 off Willis Road at 0715.
  • We will conduct the Safety Brief on the 1000-yard line HOPEFULLY around 0800 but could be DELAYED until 0830 if setting steel takes longer than anticipated.
  • Upon confirmation that the QSC EMT is present, we will go HOT.
  • There will be unscheduled breaks to conduct any target maintenance required, but no breaks to set new targets

Course of Fire

  • This is a special Know Your Limits (KYL) 600 to 1035 YD Rifle range day as described above
