New RSO & PRS

Hi y'all. New member as of yesterday. I sent in my request to the CRSO this morning to get a sponsor so I can start my RSO training. I started shooting PRS matches last year (including the July scorcher at QSC) and QSC seemed like the perfect place to spend range days. Then I read all of the posts about range days don't happen without volunteer RSOs. I figured it was time to step up and be part of the solution. My wife won't release me for every Saturday RSO duty but I expect to be able to give at least one Saturday a month to the cause. I have to do the training and pass the tests, obviously, but I'll get there as soon as I can.

I'm also in need of help...I can really use help understanding what to bring for targets for what I specifically want to get out of my visits. As I said, I started PRS last year so I want to focus on learning to read wind and get hits on steel at various distances. I've already made hits out to 1,000 yds in competition but need to get more consistent. Included in that, I want to be able to tune the BC for my round (factory Hornady 6mm Creedmoor 108 ELD-M). Not sure if we have the ability to setup the club's PRS props but that would be a bonus. Otherwise, shooting prone will do. I've read what's available here but am confused as to what would really be my best route for targets. I assume this would be on range 4.

Thanks for your time. I look forward to seeing you on the range(s)!

John,

John,

Thanks for becoming a member of the QSC and deciding to volunteer to be an RSO! By chance, did you attend the member meeting and the follow-on RSO briefing last weekend? That was a first step in the RSO process. There are additional details on our RSO page and Al Jardines is our Chief RSO, and who handles the process; Al can help you navigate the steps.

As to Range 4, you can true your BC there by first having a 100yd zero and velocity, then hanging a target at either 600yds or 800yds to see drop and adjusting BC. We have plenty of experienced shooters who can assist and at least one who is also shooting 6CM.

As to props, they will all be on Ironman. It will be an RSOs determination if they will allow shooters to utilize them during a recreational fire day.

Hope these help. If not, feel free to engage or drop by the clubhouse when we're open.

Thank you

John, thank you for the response. My membership is so new that my card hasn't arrived yet :)  I therefore did not attend the meeting last weekend. I sent an email to Al yesterday so will await his response and attend the next meeting and RSO briefing.

I appreciate the information about the ranges and truing my BC. I'll stop by the clubhouse after I visit the VCC and get my new DBIDS card so I can pick brains a little further.
