KD targets - what to bring

Hey everyone,

What is required to utilize the KD targets in range 4? I know we have access to the wood frames on site but what else beyond that? Is there a backer board that we need to bring in addition to the paper target and if so, how big?

thanks in advance,

Napoleon

Paul...I do remember them

Paul...I do remember them saying that the frame is 6ft x 6ft...

Are you coming out on Sunday? I bought me a box of Biodegradable skeet birds and some longer/taller legs for my steel...so I'll be there.

KD Frame Answer

KD's are hauled by shooter from club house area to Rg 4 and returned after shooting. KD's are complete..frame with backing and stored in the old latrine near the trap range.  As you enter toward the club house , there is a gravel road to your right that parallels the skeet ranges, go down the road and the old latrine is on your right.  Come prepared to have a way to carry the frame on your vehicle and tie it down.    You will need 2 pieces of some sort of rope to tie frame to KD carriage once you get into pits.  Call Skip at 703 987 7520 and he'll talk more on how others have solved this problem of hauling KD's on vehicles w/o harm to roofs.

KD Target

I new to all the club also. What exactly are KD targets? Are they Ar500 steel and what size are they? Can you use them with a 6.5 Creedmoor?

KD Targets

KD's are Known Distance targets.  They are wood squares covered in cloth (I think) set in metal frames that can be raised or lowered.  They can then be scored by someone in the "pit" where the target goes when it is lowered.  For club purposes I think they are mostly left in the raised position during firing because no on can be in the "pits" when steel targets are being used on the berm.  I haven't used them yet, but plan to when I get set up for 600 yard plus shooting.  There is a video on the site about scoring them on the description page for Range 4.

I'm not an expert, but that's the info I have.

The KD frames are roughly 6
  • The KD frames are roughly 6'x6' wooden frames with cardboard or plastic backers that are strapped to wooden carriage brackets that are raised and lowered from the pits. You can staple or glue your targets to the backers. A recent SOP change allows target pullers in the pits when steel is being shot in front of the KD targets, steel is not allowed in the impact berm.
