Setting up steel on Range 4

Hi everyone,

Does anyone know if steel target can be placed about 10-15 yards  or so CLOSER than the KD frames? I was thinking by placing target on the downward slope, we could spot bullet splash of missed shots more easily (for those of us still learning wind). I am not referring to the berm PAST the KD frames where people put up clays and such.

Thanks and see you Sunday!

The answer is no, that is the

The answer is no, that is the “protective berm” and not intended for direct firing/impacts from live fire. However, you problem is easily solved.  First we set some birds on the bank under the number boards and  you shoot on them, we see you impacts on bank and adjust you onto your birds.  Then go over to your shooting point and drop 1 to 1.5 MOA in elevation and shoot your steel and you are dead on the steel.  DO this two  part drill at 300/600/800 and 1000 yds.   You'll have scope settings (dope) for birds and steel ...two scope settings for 300/600/800/1000 yds.

We do this all the time at Range 4 and its 100% successful.  Talk to RSO's when you arrive at range and they'll help you.  The 99% solution is get to Rg 4 when it opens in the morning so you can set up birds and steel and 99% solution is talk to RSO's so they can help you get sorted out and be hitting that steel.

What we see with steel shooters is they aren't hitting so they keep shooting and missing and get frustrated: that is self imposed pain which does not need to happen.  When you are not hitting: STOP and go talk to RSO. We'll help you sort things out and get you onto that steel.    We do this all the time on Rg 4 but what we also see on Rg 4 is people too fixated about missing and keep shooting and missing and that is counter productive.

Questions ( you or anyone reading this), call me 703 987 7520.  We'll talk through a solution.
