50 BMG on R-305

Drove up from Richmond today to sight-in a scope on a 50 cal. I was not allowed to shoot because the RSO could not get clearance for 50 cal for some reason. Is this a permanent change regarding SOP on R-305?

50 BMG on 305

Fret not,

This is a restriction because of hunting season. We have to pull back on some of the longer range calibers until the end of the season (or until Range Control decides). We definitely have clearance for the range on typical days. Sorry this wasn't communicated to you.

I appreciate the explanation.

I appreciate the explanation. I think only myself and one other shooter were affected yesterday. Is it possible to have a "no 50 cal" note added to the description on future calendar dates when 305 is open?

Quick question about calendar details

Quick question. When I look at the calendar for this weekends plans 12/1 and 12/2 I see on Saturday that specifies .223 or lower. When I look at Sundays plan it does NOT specify a caliber restriction. Is the restriction only on Saturday? Or is it in effect for the whole weekend?

That caliber restriction was

That caliber restriction was only for that Saturday and one other previous Saturday due to hunters in the woods.

50 cal ...just come to Range 4

If you need to zero , get it done on Rg 305. Then come over to Rg 4 for the long distance work.

Unless there is some unusual air space issue and we are not "cleared" ,  50 cal , 338 Lapua Mag  are always shot on Range 4.   The only times we got a  hunting caliber restriction was a few Saturdays this year and we never have a caliber restriction for hunters on Sundays.  Most of our long range 800/1000 yd shooting is on Sundays.   You can always call me to find out what is the shooting plan on Rg 4 ..Ph 703 987 7520.  The plan is posted to the calendar too..click on the blue range 4 and shooting notes will appear with the shooting plan / training schedule of that day.
