***Always check the calendar for last minute changes before coming to the range.***

***Non-Match ranges are posted Thursday night for the coming weekend.***

***Matches appear on the Calendar well in advance as we need base approvals 3-months prior***

Range Control notifies the QSC of available ranges on Sunday night for the coming weekend (remember, RC has to de-conflict 39 Quantico Ranges). Our Chief RSO notifies our RSO cadre of available ranges and asks for volunteers to open ranges (3 per range). By Thursday night we know if we can or cannot open a range and it is placed on the Calendar Thursday night or Friday morning. If RSOs don't respond, then ranges will not open. Our volunteer RSOs are vitally important to the success of the club - consider becoming an RSO to help all shooters and allow us to open all ranges.

  • Click the Event Title in the calendar date block to get additional information on the course of fire or limits for the day's shooting
  • If NO ranges are posted by Friday morning, it could be due to all ranges being closed - check back the following week
  • If no Marine training is taking place on MCBQ ranges, then all ranges (and QSC) will be closed
  • If there are no events listed for a future date, the event may be awaiting confirmation of RSO availability
  • Members can bring Guests - Report to the Clubhouse and sign a waiver, pay the $10 Range Fee (each) and receive a guest pass that is provided to the RSO at the range
  • Must have a QSC member card

Gate Open:  0800

Target set up and Sign-In starts at approx. 0800.

Safety Briefing at Registration behind the Firing Line at 0845, or as soon as the RSO Team is ready.

The Range will go Hot ASAP following the Safety Briefing.  Please be on time.

We will try to maintain a cycle of 45/15 minute hot/cold times.

Shooters showing up throughout the day will first sign in and then receive a safety brief from an RSO prior to carrying gear to the firing line.

NOTE: If you arrive after 1230, you will not have the opportunity to place your target.

Please present your current QSC membership card upon sign in.  All guests must check in at the QSC Clubhouse and pay the guest fee, sign waivers, and present a guest pass to a range RSO prior to shooting.

At the start of the range day, you MAY bring CASED firearms to the firing line during the target setup time.

HOWEVER, Do NOT uncase any firearms until AFTER the safety briefing is complete AND RSOs have communicated that the Firing Line is Hot.

Throughout the remainder of the range day, firearms will be brought and removed from the firing line CASED, and only uncased and re-cased AT the firing line and ONLY when the firing line is HOT.

There will be NO handling of uncased firearms whatsoever while the firing line is COLD.

Drawing from holsters will be permitted at the RSO Team discretion.  Firing line congestion and other risk factors will be considered in making the decision.  RSO decision is not negotiable!

Shooters must bring their own targets, target stands, tools, fasteners, personal protective equipment, and other materials.

Targets are limited to paper, wood, plastic, and approved ballistic steel.

STEEL TARGETS

Ballistic steel targets must be AR500 steel, Min 3/8" thickness, and reactive (20 degree angled, or free swinging, and non-fixed).

Minimum engagement distances for portable ballistic steel targets

Pistol - 10 yards (No pistol magnum calibers, FN 5.7 or +P ammo on steel)

Pistol (Braced) / PCC / Rimfire Rifle - 25 yards

Shotgun (Buck / Bird Shot) - 11 yards

(Steel shooters may be segregated to one side of the firing line or other, and with a minimum lateral distance of 6 feet between steel shooters)

Paper Target Note:  Non-metal pistol targets placed closer than 25 yards must be as tall as the shooter.  Targets must not exceed the height of the impact area when viewed from your intended shooting position on the firing line.

CROSS-SHOOTING - STAY IN YOUR LANE

Shooters are responsible for ensuring their target stands are not in the line of sight of other targets and they are not shooting someone else’s target.  That includes USMC PITS.  Know what is up and down range of your target.  The RSOs will check this, and lost range time will result if an issue is discovered.

The new 680 yard steel targets should only be targeted from Lanes 5 and/or 6.

ALL target material and brass must be removed from range after rec fire. Please pick up your own brass and trash. Brass buckets will be available for casings, NOT trash.  Pack it in. Pack it out.

RSOs

Your RSOs are volunteers, here for the safety of all club members and guests on the range.  Please follow their commands.

Ironman Range - Rec Fire

Range will be open from 0800 to 1200. ***If you arrive prior to 0800 and the RED range flag (to the right of the gate) is NOT up, DO NOT ENTER THE RANGE!!*** DO NOT unpack any gear until you've checked in with an RSO.  Do not handle firearms until AFTER you and any one in your party has received a safety brief or has been directed by the RSO to do so.

Target set up starts as soon as the RSOs are back from the pits to hang the flag.  We will give an initial safety briefing as soon as setup is complete and go hot thereafter.  Shooters showing up throughout the day will receive a safety brief from an RSO prior shooting.

The range will go hot and cold as needed at roughly 45/15 intervals (45 hot / 15 cold).

Shooters must bring their own targets, target stands, tools, fasteners, personal protective equipment, and other materials.  The QSC only provides a safe range to shoot on.

Targets are limited to paper, wood, plastic, and approved ballistic steel.  Ballistic steel targets must be a minimum of 3/8" thick and constructed of AR-500 steel.  Soft steel is not allowed.

STEEL TARGETS:

Minimum engagement distances for ballistic steel targets:

Pistol:                                     10 yards

Shotgun (birdshot):                  10 yards

Shotgun (slugs):                     55 yards

Rifle caliber 7.62:                 110 yards

Rifle caliber .300WM           320 yards

Non-metal pistol targets must be placed and shot in a manner so that all rounds impact the downrange impact berm.  Example: no shooting directly into the dirt in front of you as this causes “burrowing” damage to the range.

Shooters should plan accordingly for grass and dirt.  Use of a tarp is suggested.

Please present your current QSC membership card to the RSO upon sign in.  All guests must check in at the QSC Clubhouse and pay guest fee and sign waivers prior to shooting.

ALL target material, shell casings, and trash must be removed from range after rec fire.  There should be no trace of activity left on the range other than lead in the berms.  Pack it in. Pack it out.

Range 2 - Precision Mid Range Fire (600yd Steel, Birds, Paper / NO KD targets)

We shoot only from the 600 yard line. Read notes carefully, we have specific instructions necessary to make this day successful. You must be standing here at 0700 for briefing ..non negotiable.

Assembly Plan-- Come to Range 2, report to RSO's , be briefed on range occupation plan. This means  you are standing here at 0700, get the briefing and we are moving to install targets at 0715.  Installing targets will take more time today due to geography.  Do not be late, we do not have flexibility on this.

Be prepared for a quick target set up as we intend to have our safety brief at 0750 at the 600yd line and first shots out at about 0800.

Report to the Range Safety Officers as soon as you enter the Range 2 for  instructions.

Known Distance (KD) Target Frame are NOT available at the R2 pits. We will shoot steel today, clay birds on bank, and you can install paper targets on a target stand on berm.  KD's are not available today for our use.

Please ensure you have an Empty Chamber Indicator (ECI) available.  ECI mandatory on all ranges.  Don't have one, go get one at club house at 0800 after 0750 safety briefing.

We may close the range early if the line completes firing or if they run out of ammo. Do NOT assume the ending range time is good and show up late, always best to get here early.

Range Opens:  Report to Range 2 at 0700 and be prepared to move after instructions, thru Gate 1 and into pits   .  Range Safety Brief will be issued on the 600 yard line at 0750.  Upon confirmation that the QSC EMT is present, we will go HOT.   Reminder: Get here Early. Questions: Call Skip 703 987 7520

Course of Fire: This is a 600 yard shooting day only. If firing a 338 caliber, understand you may be refused if the airspace or distance X (6400yds distant) cannot be cleared. We ONLY know if 338 calibers can be approved the morning of the event. Be prepared and bring an alternate caliber / rifle if possible.

Steel & All Target Frames: Set up time is 0715-0745.    Pits WILL CLOSE AT 0745.   Don't come mid-morning and expect us to stop the range so you can set up, we come on time so you come on time. Big Boy Rules here.  Steel Targets set at target points 25-50 only.   Steel Targets:  Have your frame perfected before coming to range. You do not have time to fool around and build the Taj Mahal, have your steel target sorted out for quick install / take down.

Shooters:  All Shooters come prepared for quick target set up. No vehicles on any grass, keep on roads. Targets, hydration, sun screen, bug spray and food - bring yours-- none provided.  YOU MUST Wear ear plugs and ear muffs and have eye protection per USMC base regulations.
