IMPORTANT SAT RANGE INFORMATION

  • Please observe the minimum distances and restrictions for shooting steel reactive targets on the SAT Range as outlined below in the Steel Reactive Target section of these notes. RSOs will check all distances for steel reactive targets prior to allowing the range to go hot.
  • If the gate to the SAT Range is open and the red range flag is not up, this means the RSOs are not present. Do not enter the SAT Range until the RSOs arrive.
  • A unique feature of the SAT Range are the four individual bays which, at the discretion of the RSO team can be treated as four individual ranges. This allows the RSO team to call separate hot and cold times or separate cadres of shooters with specific weapons and target systems on each of the four bays.
  • If there is a plate rack on the SAT Range, it may be utilized on a first come first served basis. However, do NOT risk your range time on that option.
  • QSC Match targets and props CANNOT be used for recreational fire on the SAT RANGE. There are NO EXCEPTIONS to this rule.

EMPTY CHAMBER INDICATORS

Empty Chamber Indicators (ECIs) are mandatory for all firearms on ranges managed by the QSC. No exceptions. If you need ECIs for your firearms, please stop by the clubhouse and purchase one for each firearm you intend to shoot on the range.

RANGE OPERATING RULES

These operational rules apply to all ranges aboard MCBQ managed by the QSC:

  • At the start of the range day, you MAY bring CASED firearms to the firing line during target set up time.
  • ALL FIREARMS WILL REMAIN CASED until AFTER the safety briefing is complete AND RSOs have communicated that the Firing Line in each SAT Range Bay is Hot.
  • There will be NO handling of uncased firearms while the firing line in each Bay is COLD.
  • When a weapon is on the firing line and is not being fired, the bolt or slide will be open, magazine/ ammo source will be removed, the safety will be in the “on” position and an ECI will be inserted in the weapon’s chamber.
  • Our objective is to maintain a cycle of 45/15 minute hot/cold times throughout the day.  However, if all Bay shooters are ready to go Cold, please contact an RSO, who will ensure the Bay's firing line has all weapons cleared and made safe and ONLY the RSO can make the Bay firing line Cold.  Do not go down range on a Bay without having the RSO make the firing line safe.
  • Shooters showing up throughout the day will first sign in and then receive a safety brief from an RSO prior to carrying gear to a Bay firing line.

RANGE PROHIBITIONS

The following are prohibited on all ranges aboard MCBQ managed by the QSC:

  • Fully automatic fire
  • Binary, forced reset triggers or bump stocks (simulated automatic fire)
  • Tracer rounds / incendiary (API) rounds of any kind
  • Trash, brass or ammo in the Port-a-Johns
  • Executing shooting drills of any kind
  • Shooting a rifle or Pistol Caliber Carbine from the hip
  • Flagging the line with a weapon

Form 1 and Form 4 firearms are permitted on the SAT Range.

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT (PPE)

All shooters and spectators must wear hearing and eye protection while on any range aboard MCBQ. This is a USMC policy to which the OIC or RSOs on duty cannot make exceptions.

All shooters and spectators must provide their own hearing and eye protection. The QSC does not sell, rent or loan hearing or eye protection. If shooters or spectators are found on the range without proper hearing and eye protection, they will be asked to leave the range until such time they can meet this requirement.

RANGE AGE POLICY

The following policy is in force for all ranges aboard MCBQ managed by the QSC:

  • No one under 8 years old will be allowed on any range managed by the QSC. This rule includes observation. There are no exceptions to this rule.
  • Shooters ages 8-17 years old must be supervised by a QSC Member or Guest parent or guardian on the range.
  • Shooters ages 8-12 years old are limited to 22LR caliber, unless additional calibers have been approved in advance by the QSC Board of Directors (BOD) or the Officer in Charge (OIC) on the range.

DRAWING FROM HOLSTERS ON THE SAT RANGE

Drawing from holster is permitted at the discretion of the RSOs. If the range is crowded, the RSOs may restrict all drawing from the holster until the range is less crowded.

RULES FOR HOLSTERS

The following holster rules apply to all ranges aboard MCBQ managed by the QSC.

If drawing from the holster is permitted by the RSO team, the ONLY holsters shooters may draw from are Outside the Waistband (OWB) strong side holsters. Any other holstering units may not to be used. There are no exceptions to this rule.

TARGET SYSTEMS

Shooters must bring their own targets, target stands, tools, fasteners and any other materials required to deploy a target system on the range.

Targets are limited to paper, wood, plastic, and approved ballistic steel.

Please ensure your target stands can withstand the wind on the ranges. If your target falls over because it’s not properly anchored, you will have to wait until the next cold time to make corrections.

All shooters must bring target systems with them to the range. The QSC does not provide target systems or target system components (e.g. frames, stands, uprights) to members or guests. You will not be permitted to fire a weapon on any ranges without a target system in place. In other words, you will not be permitted to fire any weapon into thin air.

The following target systems are not permitted on QSC-managed ranges aboard MCBQ:

  • Gimmick targets (e.g. dueling trees, Texas stars, spinners, pop-up targets)
  • Targets made of materials that shatter (e.g. glass, plexiglass)
  • Targets that explode (e.g. Tannerite)
  • Organic targets (e.g. pumpkins, watermelons)
  • Any targets or target systems that portray political, religious, offensive or celebrity images

The OIC and/or RSOs on duty have the authority to deny members and guests the use of any targets or target systems they believe violate these rules or consider unsafe.

STEEL REACTIVE TARGETS (SRTs)

  • Ballistic steel targets must be a minimum of 3/8" thick and constructed of AR-500 steel.
  • All steel targets must be mounted or hung with a forward cant or the ability to react / rebound with a bullet hit deflecting all bullet fragments towards the ground.
  • Steel targets must not be compromised meaning there must not be excessive pitting or holes in the targets
  • RSOs will inspect steel reactive targets to ensure these requirements are met. If they are not, you will not be permitted to use those steel targets on the SAT Range

MINIMUM ENGAGEMENT DISTANCES FOR PORTABLE BALLISTIC SRTs ON THE SAT RANGE

READ THIS CAREFULLY

  • Pistol - 10 yards (No pistol magnum calibers, FN 5.7 or +P ammo on steel)
  • Magnum Caliber Pistols (.357mag, .44mag, +P) – 25 yards
    • DOES NOT INCLUDE 500 S&W Magnum or .50 Action Express (AE)

Steel shooters may be segregated to one side of the firing line or other, and with a minimum lateral distance of 6 feet between steel shooters.

PAPER TARGETS

  • Non-metal pistol targets placed closer than 25 yards must be as tall as the shooter.
  • Targets must not exceed the height of the impact area when viewed from your intended shooting position on the firing line.

FIRING LINE

Shooters are responsible for ensuring their target stands are not in the line of sight of other targets and they are not shooting someone else’s target. Know what is up and down range of your target. The RSOs will check this, and lost range time will result if an issue is discovered.

CLEAN UP – PACK IT IN PACK IT OUT

All target material, shell casings, and trash must be removed from the range after firing. There should be no trace of activity left on the SAT range other than lead in the berms. If you pack it in, pack it out.

POLICE YOUR BRASS - All shooters are required to police their brass. Brass buckets are provided by QSC for brass, NOT trash.

ENVIRONMENTAL

QSC does not provide water, sunscreen, insect repellent, etc. Shooters must bring their own.

RSOs

Your RSOs are volunteers, here for the safety of all club members and guests on the range.  Their commands are not negotiable.

Our goal is to provide a SAFE, EFFICIENT and FUN range day for members and guests.
