General Information: The Garand, Springfield, Vintage Rifle, & Modern Military matches were developed by the Civilian Marksmanship Program for competitors to compete with “as-issued” U.S. M1 Garand, M1903, M1917, M1A, & AR-15 rifles. However, any safe functional rifle can be used. National Match modified rifles will be classified as “unlimited”. This course of fire is designed so that both new and experienced shooters can compete. As a result, the GSM matches attracts large numbers of recreation-oriented shooters who come to these matches because it combines history, camaraderie, and a competitive challenge. The types of rifles are generally any service rifle (bolt-action or semi-auto) that any country would have used for the armed forces. Match will require competitors to fire in the prone, sitting, and standing positions at a target 200 yards away.
