Range 1- Recreational Fire
UP FRONT:
- Event Date – May 16, 2026, from 0800 - 1400 Range OIC: John Monaccio
- Do not enter the shoot house or range until RSOs have arrived or are present
- RSOs are volunteers – They are USMC certified on Range Operations
- Pay attention – No Drama – These are NOT civilian / private ranges
- Help the club – Become an RSO and earn a free membership
- NO CHILDREN UNLESS SHOOTING & SUPERVISED BY A PARENT
- Ranges are dangerous and not for babysitting – See Rules in General
- QSC provides nothing other than range access and safety officers
- Shooters bring all needed items including targets, mats, hydration, sun screen, etc.
- Range 1 is a 300-meter recreational fire range for rifles, pistols, tactical shotguns, black powder and air rifles
- Form 1 and Form 4 firearms are allowed on Range 1
- 50BMG allowed but no 338 calibers
- 50BMG must be “cleared” the morning of shooting and is not guaranteed, bring another caliber just in case
- 50BMG will be placed at the end of the firing line to not interfere with other shooters
- Range Control may add other caliber restrictions based on other activities on adjacent ranges – Not an item we can debate as it is safety related
- Empty Chamber Indicators (ECIs) are Mandatory for all weapons at the QSC
- Range Hours –
- 0800 – Range opens and setup
- 0845 – Range Safety Brief at the bleachers
- 0900 – Range goes Hot after EMT arrives, and cycles every 45 minutes
- 0945 – 1000 – Range Cold for New Shooters / Target Refresh
- 1045 – 1100 – Range Cold for New Shooters / Target Refresh
- 1145 – 1200 – Range Cold for New Shooters / Target Refresh
- 1245 – 1300 – Range Cold for New Shooters / Target Refresh
- This is last Hot time for new shooters and will be 30 minutes
- 1330 – Range Ceases Fire to remove targets, trash and close range
- Cease fire in sufficient time to cool weapons / suppressors
- 1400 – Depart no later than – All persons must be off the range
- USMC Ranges rules prohibit:
- No fully automatic or simulation of auto fire
- No binary or forced reset triggers, or bump stocks
- No tracer or incendiary rounds due to fire hazards
- No ammo, brass or trash in any Porta-John
- No boutique calibers like Cheytac – Have not been USMC cleared
- Dueling Trees, Texas Stars or other gimmick or reactive targets
GENERAL: Range 1 is a General Purpose, Recreational Fire Range
- Only move Cased and safe weapons to and from the firing line
- Weapons remain cased until the line is Hot
- Safe and Case weapons for departure and only when the line is Cold
- No touching of weapons when the line is Cold
- Keep weapons not in use cased until ready for use and then recase after use
- We may extend the firing line outside the shoot house if we have a lot of shooters
- Be prepared to shoot prone off dirt / grass if needed

- Weather conditions may close the range early – RSOs make the call based on safety and numbers of shooters

- Age Limits – No one under 8 years old will be allowed on any USMC range. This rule includes observing shooters / parents. There are no exceptions to this rule.
- Shooters aged 8 - 17 years old must be directly supervised by a parent who is a QSC member
- Shooters ages 8 - 12 years old are limited to 22LR caliber, unless additional calibers are approved by the range Officer in Charge (OIC)
AT THE RANGE:
- Present your current QSC membership card upon sign in. All guests must check in at the QSC Clubhouse and pay guest fee, sign waivers and present a guest pass to a range RSO prior to shooting
- Drawing From Holsters - The following applies to drawing from holsters:
- If the firing line is inside the shooting house - Drawing from holsters is prohibited per the USMC Range 1 SOP. There are no exceptions to this rule
- If the firing line is forward of the shooting house - Drawing from holster is permitted at the discretion of the RSOs. If the range is crowded, the RSOs may restrict all drawing from the holster until the range is less crowded
- If allowed, only from strong side, outside the waistband holsters
- Targets – Make sure they can withstand the winds
- Shooters must bring their own targets, target stands, tools, fasteners, personal protective equipment, and other materials
- Targets are limited to paper, wood, plastic, and approved ballistic steel
- Steel Reactive Targets – AR500 and minimum of 3/8" thick (1/4" for rimfire)
- No calibers above 7.62 allowed on steel on Range 1
- Steel targets must be mounted or hung with a forward cant or the ability to react / rebound to deflect all bullet fragments towards the ground
- Steel targets must not be compromised meaning there must not be excessive pitting or holes in the targets
- RSOs will inspect steel reactive targets to ensure these requirements are met. If they are not, you will not be permitted to use
- No dueling trees, Texas Stars, or other gimmick-like targets.
- Minimum engagement distances for ballistic steel:
- Pistol - 10 yards (No pistol magnum calibers, FN 5.7 or +P ammo on steel)
- Magnum Caliber Pistols (.357mag, .44mag, +P) – 25 yards
- DOES NOT INCLUDE .500 Smith and Wesson Magnum
- Pistol (Braced) / PCC / Rimfire Rifle - 25 yards
- Shotgun (Buck / Bird Shot) - 11 yards
- Shotgun (Slug) - 55 yards
- 5.56mm / .223 Ball - 110 yards
- 7.62mm / .308 Ball - 165 yards
- 300 Win Mag – Not authorized, paper targets only
- .50 Caliber – Not authorized, paper targets only
- 6.5 Creedmoor – Not authorized, paper targets only
- 6.8mm – Not authorized, paper targets only
- Paper Targets
- Non-metal pistol targets placed closer than 25 yards must be as tall as the shooter
- Targets must not exceed the height of the impact area when viewed from your intended shooting position on the firing line
- Shooters are responsible for ensuring their target stands are not in the line of sight of other targets and they are not shooting someone else’s target.
