Does anyone have a prefered recipe for .308. Bullet, cases, powder, primer.
I will be using a schnieder barrel. 25" 1-12" 6 groove.
Thanks all
25" barrel??? I thought the R4 guys scoffed at everything below 30"
Despite what your wife says, size matters ;)
Use Caution! These are my loads, I suggest you work up to them!
LCLR brass FL sized .001 under min HS
FGMM 210M primer
44gr RL15 or Varget
175SMK
COAL 2.840
2757FPS @88F last Sunday on Rg 4
Fire formed LCLR brass, neck sized
44gr Varget
185gr Berger Juggernaut
COAL 2.880
2720FPS @ 80F
Thanks, I dont have any fire formed brass as the rifle is still in the works. I will work up to that. Varget I have need to start buying bullets
No problem.
I like Lake City Long Range brass because I have a lot of it.
Most guys these days prefer Lapua or Winchester brass.
The Hornady 178BT and ELD Bullets also work well.
You don’t say what twist your new barrel will be.
If it’s 1-10, you might have some success with heavies like the 190 SMK, the Hornady 208 or Berger 210s.
Just a suggestion, a lighter bullet (168g) will be fine out to 600-800 but at 1,000 you'll want a heavier bullet, a 175g or higher. If you want to shoot factory, try the Federal Gold Medal Match 175s or the Prime 175s.
I realize this is an older thread now, but no sense not to add information.
My 20" 1-10 Ruger Precision in .308 shoots about 1/2-3/4 MOA with:
42.0gr IMR 4064
175gr SMK
CCI 200
Hornady Brass
~2650fps @75*F - not fast, but reliable hits out to 1100y on a calm day.
