Quantico Shooting Club at Fredericksburg Southeastern Guns & Knives Show

All Members,

We are fortunate this year to be given a table at the Fredericksburg Southeastern Guns & Knives gun show, March 18, 19 & 20. We will use this opportunity to solicit new members for the Club. As you can guess, we need volunteers to man the table throughout the show.

Shannon Zeigler, Chairman of the Membership Committee and Grand PuBa of the event, has developed a March Gun Show Schedule (click to download).

Please read the instructions and then e-mail Shannon with the times that you would like to volunteer for. Remember, all volunteers get into the show free.

Also, please provide Shannon with a cell phone number that we can use to contact you during the times of the Show. Getting into and out of the show for free will require communication with those members at the table inside the gates of the show.

As always, we do appreciate your participation in our efforts to make QSC the "Club to Belong to."

Dick Jones, President

an additional slate has been proposed:

Prior to the casting of ballots for each office, each nominee will have two minutes to express their qualifications and vision for the future. The Election Committee will be composed of Marco Soave, who will chair the election, Willie Williamson, and Brad Cundari, our acting Operations Officer. From our President

All Members,

Our Nominating Committee has solicited from the membership, per the dictums of the recently passed Management Continuity Resolution (available for download from our web site), a slate of candidates for each of the offices of the Board of Directors that are scheduled for election this year. This is probably the only year, under this resolution, that we will be electing all five officers.

Our current Vice President, Marco Soave, has chosen not to run for re-election, and for that reason, he will preside over the election process. The remaining BOD members have chosen to continue to place their names for consideration. The following is the "slate" that was unanimously put forth by the Nominating Committee.

Dick Jones, President
David Conrath, Vice President
David Zlowe, Treasurer
Luis Eljaiek, Secretary
Steve Mullins, Member at Large

Please keep in mind two important things. First, when all offices are brought up for election, additional nominations will be taken from the floor (except those for Osama ben Ladin). Marco will accept those nominations and they will become part of the ballot to be considered by the membership during the election process.

Second, because the office of the President is a pivotal position, that election will take place first on a single ballet. The remaining offices can then be balloted based upon the outcome of the presidential election.

The agenda for our meeting will be posted in the next few days as an attachment on the club calendar for the 9am meeting. Please feel free to download and print your copy.

Please join us on the 15th & exercise your "right to vote."

QSC has an ambitious calendar of events for 2011. Membership participation is key to our success therefore be sure to sign up for soon to be scheduled RSO classes. We need a steady stream and show of RSO's and OIC's to open the ranges for recreational fire, matches, and training. If you haven't done so; pencil in the General Membership meeting scheduled on Saturday, January 15th. New elections for your Board of Directors take place and other important club business will be discussed.

Our club marksmanship records are being updated excluding team records and official NRA records. Once that information is available it will be posted. Club archives are still being sought as our "paper files" will be archived over the next month.

Congrats to all on their record setting scores for QSC...now the challenge is set for 2011.

Update!

Check-out the new document on "RSO No Fear". Thanks to Doug Hurst for providing us with essentially a how to primer on taking the two tests in order to qualify for becoming a RSO.

There are also updates on Range 1 and the Pistol Competition Page. These updates should help members and guests alike with respect to what calibers are allowed on each of these ranges.

New Across the Course (XTC) matches and clinics have been added to the 2011 calendar. In addition, several matches have been moved around so please verify and adjust your personal shooting calendar accordingly. In fact, it's a good idea to check back often as additional calendar information is populated for 2011.

Thanks

Calendar Updated

The 2011 calendar has been upgraded. You will now find a robust listing of membership meetings, planning meetings, training clinics, and matches. The course of fire and details are pending however I wanted to get this important announcement and dates to you ASAP. In addition, we are working with the NRA on a newly developed match with a course of fire geared towards first time shooters and juniors...stay tuned for more information. Thanks to our Match XO and Treasurer, David Conrath for pulling this together.

The recreational fire dates and range openings will be posted as I receive them. My hope is that we are able to post a month or more of recreational fire offerings.

Lastly, it is vitally important for our RSO;s, OIC's, and volunteers to step up and help with all these events. Without your time, support, and expertise; none of this is possible. Further updates via this web site and from our operations officer will be forthcoming.

Thanks

New Recreational Fire Policy starts January 2011 - Important Must Read for all

Shooters:

Beginning the first weekend in January and continuing until further notice, the following policy will be in force on all ranges for Recreational Fire. All Shooters must check in with the Operations Officer at the Club House before proceeding to the Range of choice. Members must show their valid ID card to the Operations Officer before receiving a Range Visitation pass. Guests of members must pay the guest fee to the Operations Officer and sign the waiver of liability before receiving a Range Validation pass. Members and guests must present their range validation passes to the RSO/OIC on duty at the chosen range and fill out the sign-in sheet before being allowed to shoot. No one will be allowed to participate in Recreational Fire without a valid Range Visitation Pass. Before leaving the Range, the shooter must police his/her brass/casings and sign out by enumerating the rounds expended associated with each different caliber, or the number of games participated in. Please note that the procedure for Match participation will vary with the type of match and the range upon which the Match will be held.

As background as to why we as RSOs requested to have the above policy implemented. We have discussed this issue many times in our membership meetings, and within the RSO Group, and we finally iterated to what we feel is a policy that fulfills all the needs of the Club. There are really three issues at play here that, to one degree or another, are co-mingled.

To begin with, the job of the RSO is Range Safety, first and foremost. Any additional function that we cause the RSO to assume will do nothing but distract him or her from that primary goal. Collecting guest fees, checking membership status and assuring that all necessary waivers of liability are signed are clerical in nature and as such pose a distraction. This policy will remove that distraction.

Second, we as RSOs have a fiduciary responsibility not only to the Club, but to our hosts, the Marine Corps. In order for our annual audit to be completed seamlessly, we must maintain a paper trail for all funds collected and dispersed. The funds collected for guest fees and target fees must equal the number of guests that were on board on any single day, and the number of games of Skeet and/or Bunker Trap that have been played. This is just one of the reasons for our Range Sign-in sheets. In the past, that required paper trail has been sketchy at best and difficult to maintain. This policy assures that we fulfill our fiduciary responsibility to the best of our ability.

Finally, MCBO 7010.1b, our MOA and our Bylaws require that anyone visiting any of our ranges, whether a shooter, guest or observer, must have a signed waiver of liability on file in the Club House. This waiver of liability indemnifies our host, the Marine Corps, not QSC. If an RSO is distracted with other duties, and a guest fails to sign a waiver, and an injury occurs, the Marine Corps would have grounds to at least temporarily shut down Club operations. The worst case of course is a permanent removal of our MOA. This policy now makes sure that we fulfill that obligation.

One other thing to keep in mind. Not all members carry their membership card with them at all times, or in haste, leave for the range without it. The Operations Officer in the Club House easily can access the Membership Rolls & verify a valid membership and thus avoid needless embarrassment.

Again, should you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Dick Jones, President, Quantico Shooting Club

Membership Meeting Info

We have two General Membership Meetings in the offing. The first Meeting is to be held on 18 December 2010 at 0900 in the WTBn Classroom. The sole purpose for this meeting is to discuss the proposed budget for 2011, encompassing both the revenue streams that we foresee, and the expense items associated with the ongoing operation of the Club. We will not entertain any new or old business at this meeting that cannot be delayed until the January, 2011 meeting.

The second Meeting is to be held on 15 January 2011 at 0900 for the purpose of electing officers for 2011/2012. Per the resolution that was passed at our November Meeting, the President, Secretary, Treasurer and Member at Large will be elected for one (1) year terms. The Vice President will be elected for a two (2) year term that will expire January, 2013.

During the first week in January, I will broadcast an email that will contain the slate of nominees for each office that was determined by the Nominating Committee, and a request to forward agenda items that you wish to discuss at the meeting. Remember, that during the nominating process for each office, additional nominations from the floor will be accepted.

I look forward to seeing you all at the meetings.

Our fondest farewell

Christy Longhelt, our Operations Officer, has elected to make a career move that we all hope will benefit both her and her family. She has been an integral part of our Club since 2007 and will be sorely missed by all. I would like to thank her for her service, and wish her all the best for herself and her family.

Christy will be difficult to replace, so we are starting on the process as I write this message. As you probably know, we have integrated the function of our Assistant Operations Officer (AOO), and our EMT requirements. Our Primary AOO, Lauren Sperry, is working out splendidly, and will be able to help with the Operations Officer duties. We will publish a formal request for resumes, coupled with the required qualifications and expected duties, both within the Club and through normal channels such as the weekly newspapers and MCB Quantico publications. Therefore, once we have published the request, if you know of someone who can help, please contact me or any member of the BOD.

Again, Christy, thanks for all your help. Good luck and keep in touch.

New EMT and AOO for our club

Physicians Transport Service (PTS) has been contracted to provide both EMT and Assistant Operations Officer duties on weekends. A Sprinter transport vehicle is now parked on club parking lot for the EMT should the need arise.. Please stop by and welcome our new EMT's and Assistant Operations Officer as this provides a significant cost savings to the club while providing consistent EMT's for weekend range opening.
